I love this little scale. I've always purchased cheap plastic ones that are good. But, for good sourdough making, I wanted to get something a little more accurate. Plus, it has a tare feature. Simply put, whatever container you might be measuring into, place it on the scale first. Activate "tare" and it 0's out the scale! Now you are measuring your ingredients or items, not the bowl. No more weighing the bowl or plate and then having to do the math to figure the true weight of your contents! (See picture: measuring cup on, but scale reads '0' after Tare button -- to the right of measuring cup -- is touched!)And it can be set to grams or ounces. I know I've seen many a European recipe online, but I didn't want to have to try to convert or guess grams to tablespoons or ounces. Now I don't have to! This scale can measure from 0.1oz to 22 lbs (2g/3g to 10kg) in .1 oz increments. Not bad!I'd highly recommend this scale for the home chef!

I bought this for baking and weighing all my ingredients, as my old faithful scale broke after 25 years of perfect functioning. I initially bought the escali primo, but the shape of it did not support my bowls and vessels.I’ve only had it for a couple of weeks, but I already love this scale, because it’s flat and has easy touch buttons.I bought it exactly because of its size and sleek appearance, and reviews said the shoppers liked it. They were right. The scale has a surface that is about a square of 6.5” if you don’t take into account the display part. But the whole surface is a scale. It fits in my cabinet and it’s lightweight. Wipes out clean. I can tare off multiple times, so I can keep adding ingredients without having to use multiple bowls. And it doesn’t shut off within a minute, so you have time to set up for your next ingredient. So far I’m loving it.I don’t use it for portion sizing, but I imagine it’d work well. I only use the grams function, some times the ounces. I would imagine it all works well. Seems to be exact as far as weighing correctly.Very good so far for an inexpensive scale.

I should have purchased a long time ago. Measuring ingredients (especially in grams) is so much easier than Imperial measures of volume. Nowadays many more recipes use grams, and my experience is being able to accurately measure 50 grams is absolutely needed to feed sourdough starter. The tare weight function works really well, too. It must be used on a solid flat surface, which does not include a tiled countertop. My old canning scale was non-metric and non-digital, and I will never go back after using this scale.

Love this scale. It is replacing an older unit that is very similar. However, this thing has a few minor feature differences that are adding up to a much nicer user experience. First, i like the back-lit display. My doesn't have this and often if i had a large pot or bottle or something like that on the scale, the shadow caused by larger vessels would sometimes make the readout hard to see. Second, my old unit uses a big watch style battery, this one uses ubiquitous AAA batteries. Much more convenient to replace when needed. Thirdly and most importantly my old scale only went up to 11 lbs, this thing doubles that. So if i'm making a large quantity of something, i no longer have to measure out half of it in one vessel, half in another, then combine them. I can mix everything in one vessel if i want.

UPDATE - Following my previous review of this scale, Nicewell Customer Support contacted me and arranged to send me a new scale. The batteries are still of the brand GP, but they seem to work better so far. The company's customer service is very satisfying. I highly recommend you to give this scale a try. A soft touch of the ON/OFF button switches it ON or OFF. The scale is very light and has a sleek design. The numbers on the bright display are easily seen during the day and at night. What I like best is that few parts are made of plastic, something I try to avoid as much as possible.I received my new scale a few days ago. It came with two new GP batteries. When I used it yesterday, the numbers kept changing. I weighed different objects and got different results with every object. I even compared the results with another scale and realized that the results were off by a lot. I thought something was seriously wrong with my new scale. I decided to remove the GP batteries and replaced them with Energizer batteries. Problem solved!!! Good reliable batteries can save your day!

I've never been one to measure out my ingredients this carefully before, but with Thanksgiving baking I wanted to step it up a bit. This came nicely packaged and had blue film over the scale itself so it's still shiny when you get it. The tare option works well - just put your measuring whatever on it and then press "tare" so when you add the ingredients, that's not included in the weight. You can measure in several formats (grams, kilograms, pounds & ounces, fluid ounces, and milliliters) which will definitely come in handy around my house. My husband has plans to use this for pool chemicals and rock tumbling. Apparently his other scales don't go up to 22lbs and he really needs it to? Sure.Overall, the scale is very accurate and doesn't take up much space.

I bought this scale for measuring oils for soap making. My old scale stopped holding its zero and I needed a new one. I’ve checked the readings on this scale several times and it has been able to repeat them. I’ve tried pressing hard on it and letting it return to zero and it holds it. I’m satisfied that it is both accurate and precise. I like that it is able to accurately measure larger weights. I can easily put a heavy bowl on top of it, zero that, and then add several pounds of oil. I don’t think I will ever need the 22lb capability... unless maybe I need to weigh a stuffed turkey. It is a sleek scale and doesn’t take up much space in my cupboard. By comparison, my old mechanical scale takes up a lot of space, only measures up to 4lbs and isn’t as accurate. Easy to use, compact and works well. It even comes with batteries.
