I purchased these to keep veggies in the fridge now that i am using one of those services that delivers produce to your house once a week. I found i was running out of plates and bowls because i needed to keep certain things refrigerated and had nothing to put them on. This has been great. I can see through the bags to tell what is in each. They are machine washable in gentle cold cycle and air dry. Product came with a registration for warranty but i have not taken that step yet. I just bought my second set. Still happy! Happy veggies in my fridge!
The mesh bags seem very durable, and the draw string is a nice touch. It's easy to bring all of these bags to the grocery store in the mesh carrying case that is included. Each bag also has a tab indicating their size (although they are generally the same size as a normal produce bag). I personally haven't had any issues with cleaning them since they can just be rinsed off and thrown into the washing machine. The bags do come with a note from the company about uses and notes that these do not preserve "green" produce as well as plastic bags/containers. However, my family tends to go through produce very quickly so this isn't an issue for us.
These are fantastic for reducing single-use plastic use. As long as you actually remember to take them to the grocery store, you can fit lots of produce in them and since they're light as a feather, they don't add cost to the produce. I also just keep my produce in them in the fridge/on the counter. They also have loads of other uses around the house so you really can't go wrong. They feel very well made. Mesh feels great quality and doesnt seem like it'll fall apart any time soon, even with constant use
I am loving my new bags! They are easy to use and I get a lot of questions from other shoppers when they see my bags at the check out. I value how they are made and that the materials are in line with our family values. If you are trying to cut down on plastic bags, I would recommend these bags as a great option. They are also great for other daily use such as a great bag to drop in your snacks for the day or for your kid's sports practice. These are going to be awesome when the local farmers markets open up. I also think they could be useful in packing for trips. In our state, you no longer get plastic bags at stores and you have to pay for bags at the check out if you forget to bring yours - so these will pay for themselves very quickly!
When I purchased this set I did not figure on using it for food storage since I have purchased other products that did not work but I saw many possibilities for their use. Well, I bought a couple of bananas and figured I would give them a try out of curiosity. I like my bananas solid and fresh but usually wind up with black. I put my two bananas in the bag and in the fridge. Day three and they look almost exactly like when I put them in the bag, ate one and still nice and firm. Day 6 I took out the last banana and to my surprise it was still mostly yellow/green on the outside and nice and firm on the inside. So, I got to eat my bananas and not throw them away. I was so pleased that I bought a second set of the smaller bags for my fridge because I usually buy just one or two of fruits and veggies but now I can add a few others since I know I will get to eat them and not thrown them away.
I bought these because of the success I've had after becoming tired of the overflowing box of "plastic bags to be reused" in our kitchen... we switched to reusable grocery bags. Why not eliminate the plastic produce bags too? Seems like I was just wrapping produce at the store, then bringing home, unwrapping, and discarding the bag. These bags are GREAT. Not only did they eliminate the single-use plastic produce bags, but produce stays fresh and i can keep it in the bag in the fridge. The mesh is breathable, you can use the size bag that works for what you are buying, and even pointy stalks can be stuffed into them without fear of rips or tears. In the fridge, the bags can opened or closed, skipping the unpacking step or typing up the tops of the plastic bags.So far no issues with self-checkout using the tare weight, or in grocery lines with checkout clerks. It's easy enough to see what is in the bags, although they are less transparent than plastic, you can see through them.100% recommend these.
Years ago mesh bags were sold for washing delicates and I wondered what happened to them. These are perfect for produce. I don't like putting them in plastic and very few stores have paper bags (Whole Foods)has them for certain items. Now I can just use these for all; those who have large families living at home get the assorted, we are down to me&hubby so I just got the smaller ones. They will last for a long time. Just know they don't prolong life just safer and the produce that needs air will be great.
I used the bags for the first time today. I bought 4 items in the produce section of the grocery store that otherwise would have required plastic bags. Small contribution, I know, but over the year, I plan to use them every chance I get. That will save a lot of plastic. I also use reusable grocery bags. I do not make New Years's Resolutions, but this year, I am going to intentionally use less and recycle more. I'm not preaching to anyone, I recognize a shortcoming in myself, and I will work to correct that.
It took me awhile to get used to taking these to the grocery store with me, but once I did, it has made a huge difference in how long my veggies last and I don't contribute to the plastic mess in the oceans. The grocery store clerks have had no issue, and they really seem to appreciate customers reducing their expenses as well. I take about 12 of these to the store, use them for the produce, then come home and wash the produce and put the clean produce in freshly washed bags (yes, I got two sets of them). Then I toss the 'used' bags into the washing machine with the other kitchen towels. Veggies last a lot longer than with plastic bags! The drawstrings are very flimsy, as is the spring lock - so you'll have to be gentle with them. But even after the lock breaks, I can still use the bag and just manually tie it closed. So no biggie. When you wash these in the washing machine, be very careful not to get the spring lock tied up under the agitator! Good purchase - you won't regret getting these, even if it does take some discipline to get used to.
I got these in the hopes they would work for sprouting - A++++ for that. The photo shows sprouted Fenugreek started on Thursday, today is Saturday. Wow! I started Amaranth in a bag today, that was the real test. The seeds are so small I can't use my mason jars w/screens. The seeds go right through the screens I use on the jars. Not one seed made it's way out of the bag today when I rinsed the seeds to prepare for soaking. I couldn't be happier with them.I haven't tried these for nut milk yet but I'm 100% confident it will work very well for that as well. They are heavy duty enough and a fine enough mesh to work perfectly.I happened to be doing laundry when these arrived so I tossed my bra's etc into some of the bags since I needed to wash them anyhow. They stayed closed through the wash cycle.Unfortunately, I did not read the directions that came with them until AFTER I'd already thrown all of the bags into the wash at the same time. It says not to wash more than 2-3 bags at a time or the cords will get tangles - and they sure did lol My bad. Took me quite some time to free my load of laundry from the cords. The attached pic does not do justice to the tangles mess I had ;)I would HIGHLY recommend this product, it's fantastic!
What I don’t appreciate is that you start nagging me for review before I’ve had an opportunity to use the bags. I received the bags on time. That is all I can say about the product upon delivery. I have since used the bags and laundered them and they are exactly what I was looking for. I have used them to store produce in the refrigerator >week and the produce retained moisture and fresh appearance much longer than I expected, definitely better than plastic. I am happy with this product.
These reusable mesh/produces bags have been absolutely wonderful. Used primarily for grocery/produce shopping, these bags are sturdy, include a variety of sizes and are machine washable. I would recommend to wash them by themselves or with reusable shopping bags on a gentle cycle for longevity. As expected, these bags aren't great for storing lettuce/leafy greens for long periods of time in the fridge. This wasn't a deal breaker as any greens purchased were prepped within a day or two.I've purchased three sets: one for my house hold and two for friends and family.. so far! I would recommend these bags to everyone in order to help lessen/eliminate the use single use plastic produce bags.
I've been reducing my plastic use for awhile so I'm very pleased with these produce bags. There are varying sizes and easily accommodate a week's worth of produce. If you're concerned with the added weight (which amounts to pennies over time) the tare weight is easily visible on the tag. Either your checkout person can reduce the weight or they can just place the empty bag on the scale and zero-out.
These bags are incredibly fabulous - they hold my shoes, dedicates for laundry, and a french bread baguette that is still viable after 3 days. About the latter, I kept the plastic from the bread purchase loosely wrapped around the baguette and snugged it up in a purifyou bag. Haven't tried the veggies in the fridge for freshness just yet. I'm confident the bag will help my lettuce stay fresh. Best deal on the Internet. These will be great for stowing everything imaginable for travel, also.
We love these! This is another set we bought as a gift and I'm actually about to go back to buy another set as a gift! They are durable and I love the locking mechanism you can use if you have several smaller vegetables or meat or whatever. I just wash them regularly with towels no fabric softener and then air dry. Leave them in my reusable grocery bags so I don't forget them. They are durable!
The reviews were right; these really do keep produce fresh for longer! I love avocados, but could never justify getting them because I live by myself and they spoil too quickly. This kept my avos ripe for well over a week, and even kept an exposed avocado half green for a few days! I love that I can forgo the plastic produce bags now, and the fact that they help keep my produce fresh definitely sweetens the deal. I keep a few in each of my reusable grocery bags, so they're always on hand. The money you'll save on reduced food wastage-- especially if you like to spring for pricey organics (I can't, but more power to ya)-- more than justifies the cost.
These avoid that awful damp storage of fruits and vegetables in plastic bags. What they still need is an identifying icon that shows what they contain, maybe a token that can be added to the pull tab. While it is easy to identify ears of corn, It's hard to tell between apples, onions, and peppers because the bags are not easily seen through. The stored bok choy is kept crisp. The stored peppers keep longer. The corn on the cob husks stay corralled. These bags wash easily with a little detergent in the kitchen sink. Then I use clothes pins to fasten them to the back of a deck chair where they dry in an hour or so.
MULTI-USE:I quickly discovered I could use these bags for produce, making loose leaf tea, fresh juice from blended fruits, aguas frescas (fruit waters), making almond milk (think cheaper nut milk bag!!!), laundry bag for delicate lace, and to use as sack to take SOFT fruit to post-yoga. (What can I say, I love peaches and figs in the summer). This is great since I always disliked fruit after its been in plastic bag, especially my figs, peaches, and other stone fruitHOW IT WORKS:Obviously helps the Earth by reducing plastic use. Also raises awareness when people see you with them. Double win.. This allows your produce to breathe, however not ideal for greens or herbs as they need cool moisture, thus the secret to keeping herbs fresh in the fridge using a damp cloth in an airtight environent. I still put greens in these bags, I just put my greens in the crisper drawer when I get home. Problem solved,WHICH PRODUCE CAN FIT:I think the obvious.. apples, oranges, and other snack size round fruit. I would estimate that I could load up my largest size bag with approximately 7-9 lbs of round fruit. (I say approximate because I fill up about 1/3 of bag with stone fruit and its comes to about 3 lbs), or a 2 person serving watermelon. (Yes, it holds its weight!!! No ripping or busted seams carrying the melons)BIG STUFF?Yupp, It does it. I've fit so far:Whole celery hearts with leaves, 3 extra large romaine lettuce, approximately 15-18 bananas, 5 bunches of 8" long carrots, 3 baskets of strawberries, melons (I'd say about 10 lbs max) large yams. They're very moderately sized.EASY TO CLEAN:I wash these by hand using 7th generation dish soap and that's plenty. I leave them out to dry and they're great. I stained some with strawberries and figs and the stain didn't come out but I don't care. If necessary for my aesthetic pleasure, I can bleach 'em in a whites cycle.VALUE:To be honest, because these are so multi-use, I'd say they're worth every penny plus shipping even if you don't have prime. I bought 2 sets and discovered I can use them for so many things I should have bought 3-4 sets! I feel so much more kind to the Earth now, I feel more responsible, and feeling better about yourself makes you happy. These bags add to my happiness in life. Haha. Buy them for gifts, buy them to help lower that footprint, since, well, plastic doesn't detoriate and you care about the future. Plus, your food doesn't get that weird off plastic after taste which is so refreshing. BUY BUY BUY!!!
I have been using these bags for a few weeks now -- they are high-quality and you really get a lot of bags in several practical sizes for the price. I've started keeping some in my car and some with my other reusable shopping bags at home so that I don't forget to use them. I also use them in my pantry to store onions, garlic, and potatoes, as they provide enough airflow for those items.Just remember NOT to use them for lettuces/leafy vegetables, as the bags make them wilt quickly. Overall, I'm pleased with this product!
Love that I can wash and dry these in the washer and dryer (and they don't fall apart). I was expecting a less dense mesh than these are, but I am thrilled that there aren't any "holes" in the fabric by which my produce would then touch whatever is on the cart, etc. at the grocery store, which is what I was expecting. The only issue is it is a little difficult for the cashier to see through the mesh to read the labels on the produce.
and you SHOULD like fresh produce, because living on coffee and ramen only works when you're an undergrad. We were so happy with these that we bought a second set not long after the first. Seriously, these bags are great in that they don't tear like the plastic ones do, they breathe, which means you can even store veggies in them in the refrigerator, and of course you get to be smug about not consuming disposable plastic bags. Trust me: as a vegan I KNOW from smug. ;-)It's wonderful to be able to pull a big bag of washed and chopped kale out of the crisper and know that it hasn't been sitting it condensation all night. I can't say that these keep veggies fresh longer because I haven't tested them formally, but leafy greens do seem to last a couple of days longer before they start to wilt. The only (small) downside is that they aren't as transparent as the plastic bags, so a novice cashier will be confused and have difficulty identifying your veggies. Just leave the drawstring stop halfway out so the top of the bag can be opened easily to mitigate this.
I bought these a few weeks ago and I'm over the moon about them. I try to minimize my use of one-time plastic items, and this puts a huge dent in my weekly consumption. My farmers at my weekly farmers market even give me a discount for using these bags! Also, they do a great job of maintaining the right amount of moisture in the bag, so everything tends to last longer. Really really pleased, I almost never leave reviews. :)
