I have been using the Streamlabs water monitor for 6 months now. This is a useful product and works well. It is accurate in alerting on flowrates that we have programmed. I recommend it to anyone who is interested in their water usage patterns, and flow rate alerts and major and minor leaks. I also recommend a water leak sensor to corroborate a water leak in a basement or other area, especially homeowners are monitoring remotelyWhen on vacation we always knew what time the petsitter visited, this from the water usage reported to the app...was a nifty side benefit of this device.Good customer service - I had some issues with the unit not making good contact, this was my error in install. Streamlabs graciously provided a spare set of contact pads.I also could not get this to work reliably with a Google Nest network and a Alexa Echo network. The device kept getting reset to AWAY mode and we started getting notifications whenever any faucet was turned for longer than 10 seconds . I disabled both networks and have not had any issues since. Likely an issue with Google....they release Beta stuff all the time.Feb 2019 update: still works great. Has proved to be a useful and reliable device. I have had no isues with its operation. It alerted me to a toilet flapper leak in an Infrequently used basement bathroom. Also learnt through the hourly usage report that my visiting relatives like to take really looong showers.July 2019 update: Device has continued to work reliably since my last update to this review. I recently purchased an automatic watering device and installed it just before i went on vacation this to water my veggie garden during the hot summer days. I was reassured to get the notifications from StreamLabs whenever the valve would turn on and then off.
I was constantly crawling the internet for something like this. A few months ago, I came home after work only to realize that the toilet had been running all day long! I have my entire home pretty automated and this was the last missing piece.I was a little hesitant after reading some of the bad reviews, but I'm glad I decided to try it out. Here are the things I like: - Easy installation: To install it, you basically attach it to the surface of a pipe using provided tie wraps. You then plug it into an outlet nearby. You finish the installation on the app which will prompt you to shut off the water main and flush a toilet. This device works by "listening" to the sound of water running through the pipes, so no need to hire a plumber. - Modern app and reliable notifications: The app is very modern which shows that this product was not rushed to the market and was tested. The app has historical data on water usage and is table to detect when water is running within a few seconds after a faucet is opened.- Alerts, Alerts: You can setup alerts when water has been running for x number of minutes on a pre-defined flow rate (see screenshot). The app also includes a home and away mode switch. Away mode will notify you if water runs for more than 15 seconds. This setting is currently not configurable, so that's what you get. - Integration with Alexa: Again this shows that there was work put into software development which is not often the case with some of these gadgets. I am able to tell Alexa to put the sensor in Home or Away mode.- Integration with Nest: I don't have nest but I'm planning to get one soon. When using nest, the sensor can detect when no one is Home and turn off away mode automatically.,Some things I don't like:- While using the app, a message will show up sometimes saying that the water sensor is offline. This is never the case and the message usually goes away after a few seconds. - No web interface for monitoring water flow: There's currently no website you can go to see the history of water usage. This is currently limited to the app.Overall a well made sensor with nothing else that really compares at the moment.
Pros-Provides near real time (30 second delay in info) information regarding water usage with GPM info-Provides alerts that are great, slow leak and major leaks-App does let you choose settings for slow and major leaks-Slow leaks are alerted even if your in home mode-setup was fairly easy-its much cheaper and guess has fewer features then one wemo launched, (at a ridiculous price of 800 bucks, they are full of themselves)Cons-No graph to see daily usage that is useful, there graph sucks-Alexa integration does not work-there is now way to geo-fence like other apps for automated away when you leave the house-Major leaks are only available when you set your app to away mode-App need a lot of work, its appears to be made for dummies. Basically minimal details.Updated 1/24/19They updated app today. Now finally you can see how much a water you used her hour when you look for today's data. For prior days you can only see total daily use. It's better than before when you guessed. They also added smart leak, I don't think it works well if your routine changes week to week. It's will the new there is a leak if water turns on when your not supposed to home. Other product stays connect to interest.. Detects flow of water.Add location based auto home Vs away optionExpand graphs or details down to the min.Possibly make a drop down info notification when app is running in back ground. Like lutron has to select scene for lighting.Apparently they have a valve as well use can I stall to stop water flow if there is a leak. That's nice. Only u would have to cut the pipe and install. I would prefer Guardian with no modification option instead.
Very easy to install. Even on a vertical copper pipe as in the picture. I tested the total gallons against the flushing of a toilet and the GPM was spot on. Just remember you need an electrical outlet for power.
Hope I can still monitor my one and only device after having it for about 6 months. . They're talking about me paying for up to five devices yet I can keep my top two devices. You really have to install this on the pipe coming into the property to monitor all the water flow. Initially installed it at the water heater and it only monitored hot water. The pipe coming into the property was 1" so I had to bring the pipe down to the 3/4 size. Luckily this does not affect the water pressure I have here. Love this product gives me peace of mind when I'm away from the ranch. had a terrible surprise with a big water bill once but now I can check in and get alerts.
Love the product. Easy installation and set up. Only wish it had reserved time slots it could remember as watering times which wouldn’t be flagged as alerts.
This is used for measuring your water usage. It tells you specifically when you have a leak. Love this! Worth every penny!
Really like the product not the price works great it gives me a warning anytime I use the water too much hopefully it will catch a leak if I have one and warn me on my phone so I can take action before I have to call my insurance company they even sent me an email saying that the unit was unplugged at a certain time and it fell out of the socket I plugged it back in and it worked fine oh and make sure you have a plug-in close to where you're going to use it at I had to put a drop cord on it to get closer to the plugin
Works well. Pretty accurate. Easy to set up.
I figured I should update this review and rating since Streamlabs have significantly improved their product over the past several months. I love the new smart alerts that learn water usage patterns and alert when there's unusual usage. It's gotten rid of the problem I had with my sprinklers constantly causing alerts. They also seem to work well since I get frequently get alerts if I shower at an odd time. The firmware has also been extremely stable for me for a while now, so I have no complaints. I would like to see the app improved so I could do better ad hoc or granular analysis of my water usage (maybe even a CSV extract), but that's about it, and it's a minor gripe. Good job, Streamlabs!OLD Review: Initially, my device apparently came with an old firmware that prevented it from connecting to Streamlabs' servers for over a month. That issue was eventually resolved, but if you have connectivity problems be sure to reach out to Streamlabs right away. The old firmware was so bad that firmware upgrade attempts repeatedly failed over a long period of time either due to the inability of the device to stay connected or other instability issues. That said, now that the firmware on my device seems to be stable, it's a nifty gadget. I would like the ability to tell it what the schedule of my yard sprinklers is so I don't get leak alerts during that time, but that's a minor annoyance and at least I know it's working to pick up the "leak". It's interesting to go into the app and look at my water usage over time as well. The app could use some refinement so it supports things like scrolling through the water usage timeline instead of providing just a set of several fixed views. I don't know if the device is capable of this or not, but given the firmware and connection issues, it would also be nice if water usage history could be stored locally and uploaded later in case of a connection issue. In any case, I got this monitor primarily to detect if and why I might have any unexpected water leaks and now that the firmware has been sorted out it seems to be doing a good job of that.
You want believe it but it works very nice.
This flow meter was easy to install and the monitoring works well. I like the ambient temperature measurement, I missed that when reading prior to purchase. I can now tell how much water I use when, and with away mode set on/off with my Smartthings modes I get warnings if water is used when it shouldn't be, for some extra piece of mind.
Shipping was less than 48 hour. Product packaging was very secure and high-end feeling. Installation takes less than 60 seconds. The app that the product links to is very easy to use and shows real time water usage and is totally configurable to your specifications. I highly recommend this product as it could possibly save your home from major water damage! Lastly, the “home” and “away” setting (in app) provides huge peace of mind when we’re out of the house.
As a restaurant owner in a large strip mall, the owner was always saying we use too much water. Until I installed this device I proved to him that we use between 6-7k gallons a month. This saved me a few thousand dollars in triple net charges. So I highly recommend all small restaurant owners to install StreamLabs.
