It's big enough to hold a few meals worth of scraps, and the lid fits snugly so there are no gaps. Between that and the filter, there's no smell off it whatsoever. It's sturdy feeling, and very easy to clean. I line mine with a compostable bag for easy emptying, so I can't speak for having to carry it out and dump it into the compost bin, but for my purposes, I love it, and it looks sleek and elegant in my kitchen."
