"Made with 100% natural vegetable juices and spices" means that the colorants are not FD&C petroleum-based dyes, which are a concern for many, as they often cause serious behavioral, dermatological, and other problems. These natural colors are derived from turmeric (yellow & green), spirulina (blue & green), and other vegetable extracts (red). In addition, all the colors contain glycerin, and some contain invert sugar & citric acid (red), trehalose, which is a natural glucose (blue & green), sodium citrate (blue & green), or polysorbate 80 (yellow & green). If you want to avoid any of those ingredients, then these colors aren't for you. But if you simply want to avoid the synthetic FD&C colors, then these are wonderful, VERY convenient colors. The cons are that natural colors are never as potent as artificial colors, so it takes quite a bit of colorant to make vibrant frosting, for instance. The "red" should definitely be called "pink." You could conceivably make red with this, but it would take a bunch! I'm posting a picture of what 2 drops of each color looks like in a TABLESPOON of frosting. They're lovely colors, but if you need to color an entire cake in a very bright color, you'll need to buy more than one box. But if pastels/medium bright colors will do the trick, these are absolutely ideal. Very easy-to-use, no mess squeeze bottles. I use small amounts of frosting for flowers, trim, or other cake embellishments, and these are quick, convenient, and AWESOME.

I’m very happy with these. While they don’t give you the color saturation that a good quality gel coloring does, they are great for my daughter to play around with and mix. They are also cheaper so when she dumps the entire bottle in the frosting, I’m not panicking. That said, it takes a lot of this coloring to affect flavor. I’m pretty happy about that. It’s so easy to get a bitter taste in your frosting. I didn’t notice any flavor alteration until my 5 year old daughter really loaded the frosting up with color to the point where it was actually watering down the frosting. The colors are overall pale unless you add a fair amount, but if you don’t mind that or want it for your icing, I don’t think it’s an issue. If you need deep saturation, gel colors will always rule. But for a quick project or kids decorating, they are great.

Great natural colors!I hate artificial colors and with those great colors I was able to do a beautiful rainbow cake!

As other reviewers have noted, the red comes out more pinky-purple. But the blue and green are lovely peaceful shades, though the yellow is bright, not pastel. I did have an issue with one bottle being clogged at first with a gelatinous strand but once removed and the bottle thoroughly shaken it worked fine. As long as you don't expect these to be like the artificial dyes, you'll enjoy them. I used them to color marshmallow fondant. One note: I tried to combine yellow and "red" to make orange and ended up with brown (see pic of fondant balls). . .that changed into muddy yellow after sitting overnight in the fridge ("tree trunk" on the cake). Not sure you could make orange with this set but I did make a nice purple with the "red" and blue.

Really rich colors, good packaging. I like that I can close the container again. There are other natural food coloring products out there that have a one time pouch and it's messy and sloppy. These come in tiny little plastic bottles with screw lids. The only complaint I have is the dye can get a little gummy. Need to shake it a lot before each use. Really happy with my purchase. I love that it doesn't have fake dyes in it. Too much stuff these days has questionable ingredients.
