I have always wanted a butcher block cutting board, but opted for this instead. I like the idea of using a much more resilient, eco-friendly product like bamboo. Is this as heavy as a butcher block? No. BUT, it has a nice, heft to it... which helps prevent it from sliding on my counter as I cut. It's a lovely board and looks great in the kitchen. It cleans up well. It has become my go-to board for cutting fruits and veg. I've been using it now for about 3 months and the surface is not getting deeply scarred, either. The sturdiness of the bamboo will hopefully help keep it from looking ragged too soon. I will definitely purchase again in the future.
I was looking for a decent-sized wooden cutting board with a juice groove, and that proved to be a bit harder than you might think. I do a lot of work with large piece of meat and have trouble finding a cutting board at a reasonable price that is large enough and sturdy enough. This one is perfect. It's not so large that you can't find a place to store it, but it's big enough for cutting large amounts of vegetable or a big piece of meat or fish. I was especially pleased with the depth of the groove: yesterday I carved up an entire raw turkey and didn't get any juice on my counter: a first! The bamboo makes it lightweight, another plus, so I like that better than hardwood cutting boards. It also doesn't rip up my knives. You can't put it in the dishwasher, but it's not at all hard to clean by hand. I highly recommend!
I needed a new cutting board to carve roasts, turkeys and the like. This bamboo board with the juice groove is perfect for that purpose as well as for everyday use. I was interested to try bamboo since it is touted to resist cut marks and be kinder on our knife blades, as well as for any possible anti-bacterial properties. So far this board has delivered; what I wasn't really expecting was just how lovely a surface appearance it has ~ very attractive if you like to leave yours out on the counter. It's finished on the back as well for two sided use, and would work equally well as a large cheese and meats tray, for example. Overall, I'm very pleased with it!
Another excellent LARGE cutting board. I have found after many years and many different cutting boards, the best ones are the Bamboo cutting boards. They clean up the best and are easiest to keep maintained to looking like new. The fiberglass ones start to get stained and grow mold after a few months, and then require a heavy usage of bleach to try to get clean again and that does not always work. The hard wood ones are almost as good as the bamboo ones, but get scratched up way too fast and then require sanding and re-oiling. Great cutting board and goes well with the rest of the bamboo cutting boards I own.
When the bamboo cutting board I’d used for over a decade finally developed a crack, I went looking for a replacement that’s also quite large, as this one is.Initially, I thought I might like a board with incorporated, self-storing plastic cutting mats. But then I realized that the structural integrity of such a cutting board system would have to be diminished significantly, given that in order the store the plastic mats, a large hole is cut through its center. I can’t imagine that would extend the life of the product. Plus, I already have plastic cutting mats which I use atop this board when I’m working with meats or poultry.Next, I considered purchasing a cutting board with an incorporated “food catcher” (which I must admit rather reminded me of a dustpan). Instead, I find it just as easy to place a stainless steel bowl in the sink, and extend the cutting board so that it overhangs the bowl as I prep ingredients. This cutting board is large enough that I don’t miss the few inches of overhang devoted to my make-do workaround.I also considered a thicker cutting board, but the greater expense and weight – particularly given that I’m used to very large cutting board; my last one was even larger than this one — caused me to change my mind. Before using the cutting board, I oiled it with good quality, food grade butcher block oil four times. I plan to continue oiling the board weekly as general maintenance. This has given the board a very nice, almost nonstick surface that’s not slippery. When I made naan bread earlier today, I really didn’t even need any flour as I rolled out the rounds but I’m so used to using some, of course I reflexively dusted the cutting board with a little.Shopping for a cutting board for the first time in over 10 years, I hadn’t realized what a traditionalist I am. I wanted a sturdy, non-gimmicky cutting board, I eventually realized.Maybe it’s having learned to cut and prep food in my grandmothers’ kitchens, where I first (maybe always?) used a solid wood cutting board, But I just couldn’t go for the gimmicky boards with extra pieces and weight.Bottom line: I’m delighted with this cutting board. It’s handsome enough to leave out, a great size, not too heavy, and well priced. What more could any cook want?
Great product! One of our best kitchen tools, the size is so convenient to cut large portions of vegetables, hold and cut big steaks easily and without mess, and I just turn it the other side and works great as a table cheese that also looks so nice as a serving platter because the wood is just beautiful and high quality. I also like that this cutting board needs little care, it's easy to clean with just a bit of soap and water but I would suggest to get a coconut oil based product to moisture it after washing and drying it with a cloth. It will not crack and the wood will not look too worn after a long time of usage.
I enjoyed this board for months. I was both attractive and useful. Unfortunately, it recently developed a split between two of the sections. I contacted the support at Indigo True and began a email conversation with one of the co-founders. She replied: "Unfortunately this does happen from time to time but I can assure you this is not something we see often. It may be due to a weak strand in the wood grain of the bamboo and it’s hard to predict these kinds of things. I sincerely apologize for this inconvenience." Once I had confirmed my order information to her, she send me a replacement board at no charge. I really appreciated her concern and quick resolution of the situation. Evidently, the company believes in its products.
This was a birthday gift to my wife. When she opened the gift she remarked that the cutting board was perfect for her needs. I figured we could use the side with the juice groove for meat and the flat side for vegetables. The cutting board is well made and should last many years. I am very pleased with this product.
